Charlotte Democrat Jennifer Roberts led the field Tuesday but appeared headed to an Oct. 6 mayoral primary runoff against incumbent Dan Clodfelter or David Howard, who were locked in a battle for second place. The winner advances to a November race against Edwin Peacock, who easily turned back Scott Stone in the Republican primary. Roberts held a solid lead over Clodfelter and Howard. City Council member Michael Barnes trailed further back in incomplete results. All were far ahead of newcomers Roderick Davis and DeJawon Joseph. Roberts had 36.52 percent and Clodfelter 26.19 percent of the vote to Howard’s 23.03 percent and Barnes’13.44 percent. Forty percent is needed to avoid a runoff. In...
